Las Vegas, August 25–28, 2025: VMware Explore is one of the most important events in enterprise IT and a leading global cloud conference for IT practitioners. This year, it takes place at the Venetian Convention & Expo Center – four days packed with technical deep dives, keynotes, hands-on labs, and product demos.
More than 10,000 participants are expected to gather and exchange insights on the future of multi-cloud, application modernization, and IT security.
One of the highlights: VMware Cloud Foundation 9 (VCF 9) – delivering a true cloud experience for private clouds, enhanced multi-tenancy, greater automation, and increased security.
Also attending: Steven Schramm, SDN expert at evoila.
Steven has been working in the IT industry since 2011. He began his career in traditional networking and gained extensive experience with technologies and products from Cisco and Juniper. Later, at Accenture, he expanded his knowledge to include modern solutions such as Docker and AWS.
Since 2018, he has been part of evoila, focusing on NSX, vSphere, and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). In his free time, Steven enjoys experimenting in his own homelab to stay on top of the latest tech developments – and balances his professional life with regular exercise.
💬 Question: You have attended VMware Explore in Barcelona several times in recent years. What impressions did you take away from these events – and what are your expectations for your first time in Las Vegas?
🎙️ Steven:
Over the past few years, I’ve attended VMware Explore in Barcelona several times and especially appreciated the exchange with customers, partners, and Broadcom colleagues from the EMEA region. While the sessions were informative, my main focus was clearly on networking – particularly given my specialization in Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
This year, I’m excited to attend VMware Explore in Las Vegas for the first time and curious to see whether the emphasis will be similarly strong on networking or if technical sessions will play a bigger role. In any case, I’m looking forward to making valuable new connections and having insightful discussions with attendees from a broader international audience.
💬 Question: What are you most looking forward to this year?
🎙️ Steven:
This year, I’m keeping an open mind and looking forward to seeing what the event has in store. I’m especially curious to experience how Explore in Las Vegas differs from the past editions in Barcelona.
💬 Question: How do you use VMware Explore to make new connections?
🎙️ Steven:
This year, I’m curious to see what opportunities will arise in new markets, and I hope to have some interesting discussions with contacts from partners, customers, and Broadcom in the U.S. My tip: Don’t hesitate to approach the speakers directly and take advantage of the evening events to start conversations.
💬 Question: Which sessions or formats would you particularly recommend – especially for first-time Explore attendees?
🎙️ Steven:
The breakout sessions are great if you want to get started with a new topic. For more in-depth technical discussions, formats like “Meet the Experts” are especially valuable.
💬 Question: VMware Explore 2025 puts a strong focus on multi-cloud strategies, application modernization, and security. Which of these trends do you consider most important – and why?
🎙️ Steven:
Multi-cloud is currently in high demand across the market, but without an aligned security strategy, companies will run into operational challenges. That’s why I see this as a holistic transformation journey that also requires adapting processes and applications.
💬 Question: Which SDN and VCF 9 topics are you particularly interested in this year?
🎙️ Steven:
Right now, a lot is happening in the Broadcom/VMware ecosystem around VMware Cloud Foundation 9 (VCF 9). For me, it’s more than just an upgrade – it introduces a range of new features, especially multi-tenancy and a true cloud experience that brings private clouds closer to public cloud offerings. What I find particularly exciting is the high degree of automation. One of the challenges is integrating technologies like Kubernetes into the core network infrastructure – but that’s also what makes it such a great opportunity.
💬 Question: What has had the greatest impact on your professional development?
🎙️ Steven:
IT landscapes have become significantly more complex in recent years. I’ve learned how important it is to understand the needs of all stakeholders instead of simply applying generic best practices. That’s key to developing truly effective solutions. My tip for IT professionals: Start building networks and engaging with communities early on – you’ll learn a lot and make valuable connections.
💬 Question: What makes working at evoila special for you?
🎙️ Steven:
II’ve been with evoila for seven years now, and when I started, we had fewer than 40 employees. From that perspective, it’s been exciting to witness the company’s development – and I’m proud to have been part of that journey.
💬 Question: evoila is “different from the other kids” – what do you think sets us apart?
🎙️ Steven:
We’ve grown from a group of tech-enthusiastic “kids,” and even as new processes have been introduced, we’ve managed to maintain an open and collaborative culture within the company.
💬 Question: Is there a special anecdote from your time as a VMware professional?
🎙️ Steven:
When I attended Explore for the first time three years ago, I was impressed by how well-attended the breakout sessions were. Back then, I never imagined I’d be speaking at one myself. Last year in Barcelona, I got the chance – and looking back, it was a truly great experience.
💬 Question: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
🎙️ Steven:
During an internship, I met Johannes Hiemer – who was still a student at the time and is now the CEO of evoila. Years later, he convinced me to join the company.
In the following video, Steven introduces himself in more detail in his role as Broadcom Knight.
VMware Explore 2025 once again offers exciting insights into the future of multi-cloud, security, and modern IT architectures. Take the opportunity to meet our Broadcom Knights – like Steven Schramm – in person on site in Las Vegas.
Feel free to reach out during the event – Steven is looking forward to the exchange!
