In the last week of August, Daniel Krieger from evoila GmbH will be traveling to Las Vegas for VMware Explore 2025. The event is one of the most important gatherings focused on multi-cloud, IT security, and modern infrastructure. For Daniel, it’s much more than just a tech conference. He sees it as a unique opportunity to experience the latest technologies first-hand and to meet people from all over the world who share his passion.
Daniel has worked in IT for more than 25 years and has witnessed almost every major technological shift during that time. As a Cloud Architect at evoila GmbH, his passion lies in networks – both physical and virtual – as well as perimeter security and virtualization. Even in his spare time, much revolves around technology. Daniel enjoys tinkering in his own homelab, runs a blog, and is an active member of the IT community. He especially values exchanging ideas with other enthusiasts, whether at events, in forums, or during spontaneous problem-solving sessions with colleagues.
In the following interview, Daniel shares what he’s looking forward to during the four days at VMware Explore, which sessions he’s most excited about, and why he encourages everyone to get involved in tech communities early in their career.
💬 Question: How would you explain what VMware Explore is, and what makes this event so special for you personally?
🎙️ Daniel:
VMware Explore is the annual highlight for anyone working with VMware and Broadcom technologies. It’s a mix of conference, community gathering, and trade show.
All the big names in the virtualization world come together here: vendors, partners, customers, architects, administrators, and developers. There are countless sessions on the latest products, deep technical breakouts, live demos, and roadmaps straight from the people developing the technology.
For me, what makes the event so special is that it’s not just about listening – it’s about connecting. You meet people you’ve only interacted with online, and suddenly you’re standing with them over coffee or at an evening event, discussing technical details or swapping crazy homelab ideas.
💬 Question: VMware Explore is not only a place for inspiring talks but also for exchanging ideas and gaining new impulses. What are you most looking forward to?
🎙️ Daniel:
I’m really looking forward to the personal exchange and the “Meet the Expert” sessions. That’s where you can talk to VMware pros about real-world problems.
💬 Question: How do you personally use VMware Explore to make new connections?
🎙️ Daniel:
I’ve already spoken with various people on LinkedIn and in the vExpert Discord and arranged to meet up. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people outside of the conference itself.
💬 Question: Which sessions, topics, or formats would you especially recommend – particularly for first-time Explore attendees?
🎙️ Daniel:
I’d recommend choosing breakout sessions that match the topics you’re most interested in. In the content database, each session is tagged with a skill level between 100 and 300. There are 300 technical sessions, and 100 of those are aimed more at advanced users.
Also, don’t fill every single slot. Leave room for conversations, networking, and spontaneous sessions.
💬 Question: Have you attended VMware Explore before? If so, what’s a highlight or memory that has stuck with you?
🎙️ Daniel:
I’ve been to a few Explore events, and I still remember how VMware once spent over an hour with me at a flipchart working through a customer problem. I made that connection through a “Meet the Expert” session.
💬 Question: You’re a Cloud Architect with a focus on VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX, and vSphere. What developments or news in these areas are you hoping to hear about at VMware Explore?
🎙️ Daniel:
I’m especially curious about how products like VKS, Avi, and others will be integrated within VPCs. There’s huge potential there to make networking, load balancing, and Kubernetes workloads even more seamless.
And I’m also interested in how VMware/Broadcom will further bring the public cloud experience into on-prem environments. If they pull that off well, we’ll be able to give our customers a consistent operating model – no matter where their workloads run.
💬 Question: You’ve been working with VMware technologies for many years. What has shaped your professional development the most – and would you recommend IT professionals get involved in technical networks or programs early on?
🎙️ Daniel:
Many of my biggest “aha” moments didn’t come from manuals but from conversations with other professionals – whether at events, in vExpert meetups, or during spontaneous troubleshooting with colleagues. That’s why I’d recommend every IT professional get involved in the community early on. For VMware, the vExpert community is a great place to start, and everyone can contribute in some way.
💬 Question: What makes working at evoila special for you? What do you value most about the company culture?
🎙️ Daniel:
What I value most at evoila is the independence I have. I can shape my projects in the way that works best to reach the goal, and I have the freedom to try new approaches.
I also appreciate the flexibility that makes it easier to balance work and personal life.
As for the company culture: there’s always an open ear here – whether it’s for technical questions, new ideas, or just a friendly exchange with colleagues.
💬 Question: evoila is “different from the other kids” – what do you think sets us apart?
🎙️ Daniel:
We have a lot of true nerds here – people who don’t just do their job but are genuinely passionate about technology.
The motivation is always high to find the best solution, try new things, and push each other forward. That not only makes us strong technically but also makes working here fun.
💬 Question: If you had to describe evoila in three words, which would they be and why?
🎙️ Daniel:
Equality, nerds, fun
💬 Question: Do you have a story, quirky experience, or memorable moment from your time as a VMware professional – maybe even a favorite from several years of Explore?
🎙️ Daniel:
When I first started, I never imagined that after three years I’d feel so at home in the community, or that Explore would become an event where I know more people than my direct colleagues. Broadcom also asked me to record a video contribution for this year’s opening keynote.
💬 Question: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
🎙️ Daniel:
I used to collect guitar and bass effect pedals.
