Germany-based IT consulting and solution organisation evoila has announced its acquisition of Routed, one of Africa’s leading specialist cloud providers. The deal expands evoila’s cloud portfolio and accelerates its growth into high-potential markets across the continent, while also inheriting an exemplary local team in South Africa, all who are remaining within the business under the same leadership.
Johannes Hiemer, CEO of evoila, says the acquisition aligns with the company’s ambition to build a strong global presence in dynamically growing regions, including South Africa and the wider continent.
“When we enter foreign markets, we focus on three core strengths: industry experience, reputation, and technological skill. Routed has delivered VMWare Cloud Foundation-as-a-Service (VCFaaS) for many years and built a powerful team, and we have found a partner who represents our values and shares our ambition to grow.”
Hiemer adds that Africa is among the world’s most rapidly developing digital markets, with the same transformation seen globally expected to accelerate across the region.
Routed—recognised in 2025 for the third consecutive year on the Financial Times Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies list—says the acquisition marks a significant new phase for the business.
According to Andrew Cruise, Managing Director of Routed, being a part of evoila strengthens the company’s long-standing mission while preserving the technical focus that has defined its success.
“Routed was built to address a clear gap in the market: dependable, sovereign, enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure delivered with engineering excellence and predictable economics. As part of evoila, we can amplify that mission, expand our reach, and position the company as a true centre of cloud excellence within a global ecosystem of solution architects,” says Cruise.
Leadership continuity is a key component of the transaction. Cruise, Lee Syse and Benjamin Coetzer will remain in their current roles. The combined organisation will move forward as one team, ensuring continuity and stability for customers, partners and employees.
Under the evoila brand, Routed will continue operating its VMware-based hosted private cloud platforms, long established as a strategic choice for enterprises seeking agility without compromising control, cost predictability, or compliance.
Cruise notes that evoila’s global network and technical expertise will enhance these capabilities and support greater scale across Africa.
Africa’s cloud strategies are increasingly shaped by regulatory demands, data sovereignty requirements, and the need for appropriate workload placement.
For evoila, the acquisition adds a deeply skilled African cloud team and a mature partner ecosystem to its global portfolio. Routed will gain access to evoila’s international consulting expertise and unified delivery framework designed to support a hyperlocal cloud model.
“We are creating a global network of cloud providers operating on the same technology stack and able to compete with hyperscalers in a unique manner,” says Hiemer. “Routed’s VMware Cloud Verified hosted platform will form part of our global blueprint.”
“At evoila, we work with service providers every day to help them run competitive and sovereign cloud services. With our hyperlocal VCF-as-a-Service Solution, providers can deliver enterprise-grade cloud reliably, at scale and with transparent, predictable economics. We are rolling out this model with selected partners in key markets and continuously expanding it with further initiatives like this one,” says Lars Göbel, Chief Commercial Officer, evoila.
He adds that evoila’s strong technical consulting background combined with Routed’s cloud service provider capabilities under the leadership of Cruise, Lee Syse and Benjamin Coetzer will result in a formidable offering rooted in shared commitment to Broadcom and its technology ecosystem. Service providers interested in exploring potential partnership opportunities are invited to contact Lars Göbel for further information.
“Clients and partners can expect the same people, the same expertise now bolstered and further enriched by evoila’s skills and services. Overall, the same unwavering reliability will lead—now just powered by global reach,” Cruise concludes.
