Responsibility & Impact

evoila’s commitment to responsible business covers sustainability, inclusion, social engagement and owner-managed governance.

What it means

How responsibility shows up in practice

At evoila, responsibility does not live in a separate function or a standalone report. It is embedded in the decisions made every day, in how the company is structured, in how people are treated and in what kind of long-term organisation evoila is choosing to become. This page shows what that means in practice across environmental sustainability, diversity and social commitment, and governance.

We are honest about where we are. Some of this is well established. Some of it is still developing. We would rather say that clearly than overstate a position we have not fully reached.

Environmental Sustainability

evoila holds ISO 14001 certification for environmental management. That means the company’s approach to environmental responsibility is structured, documented and externally audited. That certification reflects a genuine commitment to operating with a reduced environmental footprint, not a marketing position.

In day-to-day work, this means a consistent preference for digital over physical wherever possible. Marketing and communication are paperless by design. Internal materials, client documentation and project outputs are digital by default. Video production uses energy-efficient LED lighting, reduces transport where possible and reuses equipment and materials instead of treating each production as a one-off disposal event. Events are planned with sustainability criteria in mind from the start, including regional catering where available, paperless access and accessible venues.

The digital nature of evoila’s core business is also environmentally relevant. IT consulting and implementation that improves infrastructure efficiency, reduces redundant systems or supports cloud migration away from energy-intensive on-premises hardware can create environmental value beyond evoila’s own operations. The company is careful not to claim credit for outcomes achieved by clients. At the same time, the quality of the architecture advice provided has real consequences for the energy consumption of the environments being designed.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

evoila operates across 15 countries and brings together specialists from a wide range of national, cultural and professional backgrounds. That diversity is not a programme. It is the result of building an international organisation over time and hiring for technical capability and cultural alignment rather than proximity or uniformity.

Inclusion at evoila means that the culture described elsewhere on the site, direct communication, genuine curiosity and the freedom to care deeply about technical work without performing a particular professional persona, applies across every role, every country and every background. The technical community has not always been equally welcoming. evoila is aware of that and works to maintain an environment where people are evaluated on what they contribute, not on how they present.

In practice, this commitment can be seen in how the core values are applied. Trust means recognising and respecting individual strengths. Collaboration means that teams across countries and backgrounds are treated as a source of capability, not as coordination overhead. Fun means creating a genuinely welcoming environment for people who care about solving complex technical problems, regardless of what that looks like from the outside. The core values themselves were developed through a company-wide process that included feedback across levels, countries and tenures.

‘Every time we enter a new market, we bring our culture with us. It’s not because we’re required to; it’s because consistency is what makes trust possible across borders.’
Lars Göbel, CGO at evoila

Social commitment

evoila supports social projects that reflect a real commitment to the communities in which the company operates. These initiatives are meant to be visible and tangible. They are not treated as a line item in a report.

The owner-managed structure matters here as well. Social commitments are made by the same people who carry the commercial consequences of those decisions. There is no separate governance layer where responsibility is managed at a distance from the business. That proximity creates accountability. When evoila supports a social initiative, it is a decision made by the people running the company, not by a compliance function removed from strategy.

Governance

Being owner-managed and self-financed is the foundation of evoila’s governance posture. With no external shareholders, there is no quarterly pressure pushing long-term decisions towards short-term results. The people making strategic decisions also carry the consequences of those decisions over time. That is the clearest form of accountability available and it shapes commitments across every part of the business, including this one.

Responsible data handling is non-negotiable in evoila’s operating model. EU GDPR Article 28 certification as a data processor, ISO 27001 for information security and BSI C5 certification for cloud services are the operational expression of that governance standard. Transparent cookie policies, responsible data architecture in client engagements and a principled approach to data privacy are not marketing differentiators. They are requirements evoila operates under.

Being owner-managed means the decisions we make about how we treat people, how we handle data, and how we show up in the markets we operate in come back to us directly. There is no governance layer where responsibility gets managed at a remove from the people running the business. That is not a burden. It is the kind of accountability we think every company should have.
Johannes Hiemer, CEO at evoila

Where we are going

This is not a finished picture. evoila is growing, entering more markets and operating in more complex organisational conditions over time. The commitments described on this page will be tested by that growth, and in some areas they will need to develop further to remain meaningful.

What will not change is the basic orientation behind them. Responsibility is a consequence of how a company is structured and how it operates. It is not a layer added on top of a business model that would otherwise not account for it. evoila’s owner-managed independence, ISO 14001 environmental management, inclusive culture and commitment to honest governance are structural features of the organisation. They are part of what the company is built on.

Growth that undermines what you are building is not growth. We have expanded to 15 countries and we intend to keep going. But not at the cost of the culture or the standards that made the expansion possible in the first place. That is the constraint we put on ourselves, and we think it is the right one.
Jürgen Horak, COO at evoila
