Day one
One year past by and it was already time for Cloud Foundry Summit Europe. From evoila we were happy to contribute to it yet another time. So a team of three of us headed on Tuesday morning at 05.45 from the region Rhein-Main towards Basel by car. After our little road trip we were the first attendees of this years summit. The hackathon
This years summit was the first European summit with a hackathon and the second summit with one at all. So we were very excited about what was going to happen. The hackathons goal was to develop an extension to Cloud Foundry in at most one and a half day in a team of at max four members. Starting with a brief mindstorming and team-up session, we three from evoila teamed up with another attendee from Volkswagen Financial Services to our hackathon team.
Our goal was to develop a solution to allow users of Cloud Foundry to engage with each other and offer their applications deployed to Cloud Foundry inside of the Cloud Foundry Marketplace in an easier way than writing their own service broker https://www.openservicebrokerapi.org.
So we started to develop our Software-as-a-Service-Broker (SaaSB) which should enable application developers to place their applications in the Marketplace by creating a special service instance of SaaSB next which registers this app inside the Marketplace. There is created a new service offering representing the application. So other developers could consume the other application in their spaces.
On Wednesday we had to present our results including a live demonstration to the jury and Chip Childers which presented the best teams in the last days keynote. The Ambassadors meeting
At the beginning of this summit we had a meeting of the Cloud Foundry ambassadors. There Christian Brinker and the other ambassadors discussed actual developments in the Foundation and the Cloud Foundry ecosystem as well as how to promote Cloud Foundry even more and spread the spirit of the community. Another topic was the staffing of the ambassadors booth at the summits sponsor showcase where people can come to and ask questions about Cloud Foundry.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=“1/2″][vc_single_image image=“9878″][/vc_column][vc_column width=“1/2″][vc_single_image image=“9877″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
The Unconference
One of the coolest events at this years summit was definitely the unconference. Especially during the open table sessions there was this very good exchange of ideas and prospects of Cloud Foundry. Some of the topics covered were Cloud Foundry, Functions-as-a-Service, the open service broker API or who decides what is Cloud Foundry developing towards . It was cool to see that common understanding of what we want to achieve with the foundation and that many of us share the same ideas.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=“1/4″][vc_single_image image=“9879″][/vc_column][vc_column width=“3/4″][vc_column_text]
Day Two
On day two the conference started officially with the keynote. Revealing the renaming of the KUBO project and the elastic runtime to “Cloud Foundry Container Runtime” and “Cloud Foundry Application Runtime”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=“1/2″][vc_column_text]
Cloud-native microservices track
The sessions started on day two of the conference. They were organized in different session tracks. We were happy to provide one of the session track heads. Christian Brinker opened the cloud-native microservices track together with Alex Ley – PM of the Open Service Broker API – from Pivotal. Day Three
Day three started with the pancake breakfast and the live recording of the newstack (https://thenewstack.io) podcast. While it started with a range of topics it ended with a hot discussion about the the future vision of how the new container engine can be better integrated in the cloud foundry community.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=“1/3″][vc_single_image image=“9885″][/vc_column][vc_column width=“1/3″][vc_single_image image=“9886″][/vc_column][vc_column width=“1/3″][vc_single_image image=“9887″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=“2/3″][vc_column_text]As we were one of the first to arrive, we were also one of the last to leave. Conclusion
This year’s Cloud Foundry Europe summit was as always a very good come together and knowledge exchange in the community.
